Clean Drinking Water Solutions Pty Ltd is advancing a 3-litre and 1-litre reusable, sunlight-activated nanotechnology water purification bag designed to address one of the world’s most urgent challenges — access to safe drinking water.

Developed in collaboration with the Global Innovative Centre for Advanced Nanomaterials (GICAN) at the University of Newcastle, Australia, this innovation integrates photocatalytic nanofibre disinfection with carbon–zeolite heavy metal adsorption in a single portable system.

A Large and Urgent Global Market

Billions of people globally lack safely managed drinking water services, with contamination often involving multiple pollutant classes — microbes, organic chemicals and heavy metals.

Existing portable solutions typically address only one category of contamination or require power, consumables, or chemical dosing.

Our sunlight-powered, reusable system is designed to deliver broad-spectrum treatment without electricity, positioning it strongly for:

  • Government water programs

  • Humanitarian and disaster relief

  • Defence applications

  • Rural and remote communities

  • CSR and impact-led distribution models

Initial commercial focus includes India, with expansion planned into additional high-need regions.

Technology Readiness & Validation

The underlying materials platform has undergone laboratory validation, including:

  • Photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants

  • Antibacterial testing under light exposure

  • Heavy metal adsorption performance across multiple contaminants

The project is progressing from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 3–4 toward system integration, pilot production and operational environment testing.

Commercial Strategy

Planned pathway to market includes:

  • Prototype and initial production in Australia
